Finding effective variables in marriage success has always been the considered by counselors and psychotherapists. Relational ethics refers to trust, justice, loyalty, responsibility and merit in relationships and affects the fairness of relationships. Relational ethics has two vertical (Ethics in the family of origin) and horizontal (Ethics between partners) dimensions. The aim of the present study was to determine relational ethics as a predictor of success and failure of women's marriage. The studied population of the current research was women following divorce procedure and normal women in Ahvaz city. The research sample consisted of 150 women following divorce and 150 normal women whom were selected by available sampling method. The participants completed the relational ethics scale and demographic information questionnaire created by the researcher. In this research, Discriminant analysis was used to analyze the data. The results showed that the linear combination of the components of relational ethics in the family of origin and the components of relational ethics in marital relationships were strong predictor of the success and failure of women's marriages, and the discriminant analysis method showed that the components of trust and justice, loyalty and entitlement in family of origin and the components of trust and justice and loyalty in marital relationships discriminahted success and failure of marriage individually. However, the component of entitlement in marital relationships could not discriminate success and failure of marriage individually. Horizontal relational ethics has a stronger predictive power than vertical relational ethics; therefore, it can be concluded that relational ethics has a decisive role in predicting family functions and the durability of marital relations. Therefore, considering the effect of relational ethics, it is suggested that the mentioned variable be taken into consideration in the stability of marriage.

Virtues, defined as strengths or personality traits, enable a good or valuable life.Applying the concept of marital virtues to the context of the marital relationship is a result of recent positive psychology works. One of the tools for measuring marital virtues is the Marital Virtues Profile (MVP). Research has shown that marital virtues affect marital quality, stability, and adjustment. The MVP includes items that measure the individual and other-centeredness levels of marital virtues in a marital relationship. The present study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the martial virtues profile in married people in Izeh. To achieve this goal, 228 married individuals (118 females and 110 males) responded to the profile of martial virtues. The findings confirmed the five-factor structure of the marital virtues profile (admiration, understanding, sacrifice, justice, and forgiveness) in the Iranian sample as well. Findings also showed that this measure has good reliability and validity. The internal consistency of MVP was 0.89 using Cronbach's alpha and the correlation between MVP with the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS) was 0/49. Therefore, the implication of this measure is recommended for family and marriage researchers, family and couples therapists and educators of marriage education programs.

situations in which spouses’ interests and needs are different are unavoidable. Yet, the ability to manage differences constructively assists couples establish intimate relationships. In an Islamic culture, tolerance is defined as the best way of dealing with differences in human relationships. The current research aimed to predict marital intimacy based on an Islamic model in spouses’ relations. A total of 240 married couples (118 women and 122 men) participated in the study and filled out the Tolerance in Spouses` Relationships Scale (TSRS) and the Intimacy Scale (IS). The results of the research showed significantly positive correlations among the four components of tolerance (spouse`s empathy and acceptance, emotional control and patience, facilitation of spouse's growth and actuation process, and beneficence and forgiveness toward spouse), its total score and marital intimacy. Also, the results revealed that spouse`s empathy and acceptance as well as the beneficence and forgiveness toward spouse could predict marital intimacy more than other components. The remaining variables, emotional control and patience, and facilitation of spouse`s growth and actualization process were excluded from the regression model because of overlapping with other predictor variables. According to the results of the research, one can conclude that tolerance with an Islamic approach plays a determining role in predicting marital intimacy. The findings of the present research can be used by specialists and family therapists.

Relational ethics deals with fairness and unfairness in intimate relationships. It also deals with trustworthiness, justice, loyalty, merit, and entitlement between members of a relationship. Relational ethics requires members of the relationship to assume responsibility for consequences in the process of give and take. The Relational Ethics Scale (RES) consists of two types of components: vertical and horizontal. The vertical dimension of the scale measures relational ethics in family of origin and the horizontal dimension measures current relationships between spouses. The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Relational Ethics in married men and women in Ahvaz. 208 married participants (89 males, 119 females) were asked to complete the Relational Ethics Scale (RES), the Relational Assessment Scale (RAS) and the Measure of Perceived Equity (MPE). Results confirmed the six-factor structure of the RES. They also showed that the RES has a suitable concurrent validity and reliability in measuring the couples’ relational ethics. Findings showed that this scale can be appropriately used in research studies as well as in premarital consultation and couple therapy by psychologists and family counselors.

Abstract: The experience of happiness in an enduring marriage causes internal satisfaction among couples. It also affects the well-being and development of their children. The present study was set up to investigate the lived experiences of couples who expressed satisfaction with their married life. Following a phenomenological approach, this study conducted in-depth and exploratory interviews among 14 married males and females who believed they had happy marriages. Data were collected , coded and organized in the form of themes and subthemes. 256 codes, 21 subthemes and 5 themes were identified through the content analysis of the data. The five main themes extracted were feeling of happiness, moral factors in happiness, presence of others, happiness raising behaviors and constructive marriage. The result revealed that happiness in marriage entails a feeling of comfort and satisfaction created by moral and ethical consideration observed by the couple, performed in the presence of others and accompanied by happiness raising behaviors. Mutual relationships between meanings and standards of happy marriages were also revealed.

Abstract: Perspective taking as the cognitive aspect of empathy, is the ability to put oneself in other persons, place. This means that a person understands another person,s situation and walks with his or her shoes. It seems that perspective taking is a feature which is equaly used to increase positive interactions between the romantic and non-romantic relationships. The Self Dyadic Perspective-Taking scale (SDPT) includes items that measure the view of people in couple relationships and Other Dyadic Perspective-Taking scale (ODPT) includes items that measure people,s perceptions of their partners. The aim of the present study was evaluating the psychometric properties of the Self Dyadic Perspective-Taking and Other Dyadic Perspective-Taking scales. A total of 300 married men and women (148 men and 152 women), in Ahvaz, participated in this study. All participants were asked to complete the Self Dyadic Perspective Taking and Other Dyadic Perspective Taking Scales and Batson Empathy Adjective Scale (BEAS). This study confirmed the two-factor structure of Self Dyadic Perspective-Taking scale and two-factor structure of Other Dyadic Perspective-Taking scale. Findings also showed that the Self Dyadic Perspective-Taking scale and the Other Dyadic Perspective-Taking scale are valid and reliable scales for measuring perspective taking. Findings showed that these scales can be used in research studies and the use of these scales in premarital consultation and couple therapy is recommended to psychologists and family counselors.

: Readiness for marriage is regarded as a subjective evaluation of one's own readiness to take on the responsibilities and challenges of marriage and a predictor of marital satisfaction. So the aim of the present research was studying the lived experiences of marriage readiness among married students. The study was conducted in a qualitative method using a phenomenological approach. Thus 16 married students who had felt marriage readiness at the time of their marriage, were selected in a purposive sampling which were studied via in-depth and exploratory interviews. Then data were collected, registered, encoded and classified into 5 main categories. By analyzing the participants' experiences, 551 primary codes, 17 subthemes, and five main themes, including interpersonal readiness, intrapersonal readiness, contextual readiness, meeting the needs, and social support were identified. The results showed that different factors such as gaining moral, emotional and mental readiness to marriage, gaining emotional and financial independence from family of origin, getting ready to sacrifice, forgiveness and commitment to spouse , accepting the responsibilities and challenges of marital life, acquiring necessary interpersonal skills, considering some criteria for choosing spouse, making acquaintance with the spouse, getting some experiences from marital life of others and student life, age readiness, and others' supports have an important role in preparing people for marriage. So all important factors should be noticed in marriage preparation programs which target adolescents and the youth.

Research on marriage suggests that emotional exchanges are powerful predictors of marital quality and stability. What is the role of negative emotions in destructive marital exchanges in females? What is the role of positive emotions in decreasing destructive marital exchanges in females? In response to these questions, the present study was designed to investigate the moderating role of positive emotions on the relationship between negative emotions and destructive marital exchanges in females. Participants were 125 females living in Hendijan. All participants were asked to complete the Positive Emotions Scale (PES), Negative Emotion Scale (NES), and Destructive Marital Exchanges (DME). The results showed that negative emotions were positively associated with destructive marital exchanges in females. Moreover, results showed that positive emotions moderate the relationship between negative emotion and destructive marital exchanges in females. Based on the results of the present study, it can be concluded that the extent of positive relationship between negative emotions and destructive marital exchanges is lower in females with positive emotions than females with negative emotions. These findings would be helpful for understanding the important role that emotion regulation plays in marital success and administering interventions to improve couples’ emotional functioning.

Studies show that attachment styles can have a significant impact on the couple’s marital quality. This impact can be direct or indirect and can be in interaction with other significant psychological variables including the spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors. This study aimed to investigate the direct and indirect effects of attachment styles on women’s marital quality through spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors as a mediator. 130 married female students of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz participated and completed the Experiences in Close Relationships- Revised (ECR-R) Questionnaire, the Perception of Sacrificing Behaviors Measure (PDM), and the Measure of Marital Quality (MMQ). The tested model in the sample had a good fit. Results of the structural equation showed that style had direct and indirect effects on marital quality, through spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors, though avoidance attachment style had a negative indirect effect on marital quality through sacrificing behaviors. Findings of the present study showed that the relationship between attachment styles and marital quality was not a simple linear one but spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors could play a mediating role in this relationship. Findings of the present study suggest that the impact of attachment styles on spouse’s perception of sacrificing behaviors should be taken into account by therapists when working on family relationships enhancement.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of attachment styles (anxiety and avoidance), relational attributions (causal and responsibility attributions) with violence against women. From among all the female violence victims referring to the social security center of Shiraz 130 women were selected through convenient sampling method. They completed the Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised Questionnaire (ECR-R), the Relationship Attribution Measure (RAM) and Violence Toward Women Inventory (VTWI). The data were analyzed using simple correlation and multiple regression. The results revealed a significantly positive correlation between anxiety and avoidance attachments, causal and responsibility Attributions and the violence exercised against women. The results of multiple regression also showed that anxiety and avoidance attachments, causal and responsibility attributions explained 64 percent of the total variance in the violence exercised against women. According to the results, it can be said that a pervasive fear of being rejected and an excessive dependence on a partner in anxious people, getting evasive about intimacy and avoiding husband in avoidant people, an excessive concentration on the negative behavior of the partner by the women with causal attributions, and seeking for blaming partner by the women with responsibility attributions can bring about violence against women. The results of the current study can help the therapists to diagnose the effective factors in violence against women. The results also showed that violence against women is not merely confined to men’s role, but women and their relational characteristics play an influential role in this disorder.
